Bart Wildermuth Scholarship

The recipient of the 2022 Bart Wildermuth Scholarship is Alicea Piscitelli, a graduating senior from Sheehan High School. Alicea plans to continue her education at Iona College. While at Sheehan she was a member of the Girls Varsity Soccer Team and also participated in indoor and outdoor track. According to her essay, she developed lots of anxiety during Covid and consequently she found her way back to her faith. She’s entering college with an undeclared major, but she trusts “that God will guide her on the right path and put her where she needs to be”.

Bart Wildermuth Scholarship In June of 1977, Jimmy Carter was president, a first class stamp was 13 cents, a gallon of gas was 62 cents… And Bart Wildermuth graduated from Lyman Hall High School. While in high school Bart played the trumpet in the school band, and was a member of the Baseball team, the Ski Club and the Key Club. Bart continued his education by attending the University of New Haven pursuing a career in law enforcement but died unexpectedly in November of 1977 from an accidental gun shot at the age of 18.

Bart was baptized and confirmed in the Wallingford First United Methodist Church. At his parents' request the Wallingford Methodist Church set up a scholarship that has been given out to a graduating senior in Wallingford since 1978. The scholarship committee looks for the qualities that were evident in Bart:

“Someone who is close to their family, and active in their church and community, someone with a great sense of humor and a love of music and/or someone who has a dream for their future and is willing to pursue that dream through education.”

A letter to the editor after his untimely death said that “Bart Wildermuth’s moments in the sun had touched us all.” All these years later - through this scholarship Bart continues touching the lives of many High School graduates.
